Fire Panel Explained

Responding to a ‘Fire’ activation on the panel:

  • Within 30 seconds, acknowledge the activation - usually with a special button
  • Press ‘mute’ to stop the panel tone.
  • Transmit the radio message ‘Base to all units we have a fire at ...location…’.
  • Ensure someone responds to your message immediately. If there is no response transmit the message again until you get a response.
  • Monitor the panel. If the countdown clock reaches 60 seconds, inform the Investigating Officer (I.O.) that they have one minute left.
  • Whilst waiting for the INVESTIGATION OFFICER to inform you of the outcome, record the activation details in the red Fire Log book beside the panel.
  • Follow instructions from the I.O. as to whether to reset the panel, isolate, or evacuate. 
  • To silence the alarms press the ‘silence / resound’ button once.
     

 

 IF Fire action signYOU DISCOVER A FIRE

  1. BREAK THE NEAREST GLASS FIRE POINT
  2. LEAVE THE BUILDING BY NEAREST EXIT
  3. REPORT TO ASSEMBLYPOINT
  4. DIAL 999 AND INFORM THE EMERGENCY SERVICES WHERE THE FIRE IS

 

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

On hearing the alarm, without personal risk, the following staff should do as follows:

DO NOT use lift

  • DO NOT stop to collect personal belongings
  • DO NOT take personal risks
  • Stay with your department, act professional and do not re-enter the building until told to do so
  • Keep calm and NO SMOKING during evacuation or at assembly point
